2026/27 Australian estimate

Australian salary calculator

Estimate Australian salary take-home pay after income tax, the Medicare levy, optional HELP repayments and salary sacrifice. Employer super is shown separately, so it is easy to compare a salary including super with the cash amount you keep.

Adjust your estimate

The A$55,000 starting figure is an editable general example. The default is an Australian resident who pays the standard Medicare levy and has no HELP debt or salary sacrifice. Claiming the tax-free threshold affects payroll withholding rather than final annual tax, so it is handled in the payslip calculator.

Estimated monthly take-home pay

$3,906.67

$46,880.00 a year after selected deductions

Gross salary
$55,000.00
Income tax
$7,020.00
Standard Medicare levy
−$1,100.00
Employer super (12%)
$6,600.00

Important: this is an annual planning estimate, not a tax return or exact payslip. It does not include offsets, deductions, investment income, family circumstances, Medicare Levy Surcharge, working-holiday-maker rates or employer-specific payroll treatment.

What the optional settings improve

Tax residency changes the tax bands and whether Medicare levy is estimated. HELP uses the 2026/27 marginal repayment method, but actual repayment income can include reportable fringe benefits, reportable super contributions and other amounts beyond salary. Salary sacrifice reduces the taxable salary shown, while the sacrificed amount is not cash take-home pay.

Use this as a quick salary and net pay check when comparing a job offer, planning a raise or working out how much of a gross salary reaches your bank account. If you are comparing a salary including super, remember the employer super amount is separate from take-home pay.

Based on Australian resident tax-rate legislation, the 2026/27 HELP repayment rules, and the ATO super guarantee rate.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include every Australian deduction?

No. It estimates the selections shown. Offsets, Medicare levy reductions or surcharge, investment income and employer-specific treatment can change the result.

Is employer super included in take-home pay?

No. Employer super is shown separately because it is generally paid to your super fund, rather than your bank account.

Can this replace a tax return?

No. It is a planning estimate only; use ATO information or a qualified adviser for your own circumstances.
