Canadian pay guide
Why a Canadian paycheck estimate can differ from your payslip
An annual salary estimate is useful for planning, but a real paycheck is calculated for a particular pay period and can include personal deductions.
In short
Pay frequency, TD1 forms, benefits, pension or RRSP deductions, bonuses and provincial payroll treatment can all make a payslip differ from an annual estimate.
Pay-period calculations
Payroll processes each weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly or monthly payment separately. CPP, QPP and EI also have annual limits, so deductions can change later in a year.
Personal deductions
Workplace benefits, union dues, pension contributions and other deductions can reduce the deposit in your bank account without changing the headline salary.
Use the Canada paycheck calculator as a planning baseline and compare its assumptions with your payslip.
